A holiday-apartment kitchen: the order of the building work

The sensible order of a kitchen renovation in a holiday apartment, from the first visit to the finishes, planned around your guests.

A kitchen in a holiday apartment works hard. Many different guests cook in it, clean it and use it in their own way. When you renovate it, the order of the building work matters. A good order saves time, avoids extra work and helps you get the apartment ready for guests again. This guide explains the order we follow in the south of Gran Canaria.

First: the visit and the measurements

Everything starts with a visit to the apartment. We listen to what you want, look at the current kitchen and take the measurements. The visit is free and you have no obligation.

If you live abroad, you can start before the visit. Send us a few photos of the current kitchen on WhatsApp and, if you have one, a floor plan. This helps us prepare.

After the visit you receive a written quote. It shows the price, what is included and the dates. One person from our team is responsible for your project from this first visit to the handover.

Then: the design and your choices

Next comes the design. We plan the kitchen around how it will be used: where the light comes from, where people sit and how the space connects to the terrace. For larger projects you see a 3D design before the building work starts.

This is also the time to choose the main parts of the kitchen:

  • Kitchen cabinets: made to measure or from quality brands.
  • Worktop: quartz, porcelain or natural stone.
  • Appliances: chosen to fit the space.
  • Lighting: planned with the layout, from the ceiling to the worktop.

Many apartments in the south have a small closed kitchen. Some owners open it to the living room. This needs structural checks, which an architect must make first. Tell us what you like and we include the options in the written quote. We help you choose and we coordinate the delivery.

Behind the walls: plumbing and electrics

A kitchen renovation touches water, electricity and ventilation. This work comes first on site, before any new kitchen cabinets go in. Once the cabinets and the worktop are in place, it is much harder to change a pipe or a cable.

Our team brings the plumbing, the electrics and the ventilation up to current standards. In a holiday apartment this is worth doing well, because many guests use the oven, the hob and the dishwasher, often all at the same time.

Then the kitchen cabinets, the worktop and the finishes

When the work behind the walls is ready, the kitchen cabinets are fitted, then the worktop, then the appliances. The building work is planned to start when the kitchen cabinets are ready, so the kitchen is not left open while you wait for a delivery.

The finishes come last: tiles or wall panels, the lighting, the handles, the painting. At the end we check the finished work together with you.

Some things can wait for later. Extra shelves, new chairs or small decorative changes do not need to happen during the main building work. Discuss with us what must be done now and what can follow.

Planning around your guest bookings

Many of our clients renovate a kitchen between seasons. If you know your booking calendar, tell us at the start. The written quote gives the dates, and we agree the start date with you before the building work begins.

If the apartment is in a community, we respect the community's rules on working hours and noise, and we coordinate with the administrator when needed. While you are abroad, one person manages the building work in Gran Canaria and keeps you informed with photos and reports.

Materials that stand up to many guests

For a holiday apartment, choose materials that are easy to clean and strong. A smooth worktop without many joints is quicker to wipe down between guests. Simple cabinet fronts show less wear. Good lighting over the worktop makes cooking easier and cleaning more thorough.

Quartz, porcelain and natural stone each have their own look and care needs. We explain the differences at the visit, so you can choose what suits your apartment and your guests.

The next step

Would you like to renovate the kitchen in your holiday apartment? Send us a photo of your kitchen on WhatsApp or use the contact form. We arrange a free visit, take the measurements and send you a written quote with the price, what is included and the dates. There is no obligation.
